Wine Crawl is an annual wine tasting event organized by the International Wine & Food Society Manila, ladies branch. This year, IWFS conducts its 9th run with 11 various wine merchants, featuring over 70 kinds of wine, with over 300 attendees held at The Axon, Green Sun Makati.
Estate Wine is one of the wine purveyors that participated in the event, showcasing 6 delicious wines.
Sparking curiosity amongst the attendees, the 2010 Wine Merchant’s Range English Sparkling Wine was a pleasant surprise for everyone for its unique autolytic notes, refreshing acidity, and apple-fruit core. Also from Berry Bros. & Rudd, the 2016 Wine Merchant’s Range New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was a standout for its zip passion-fruit vibrancy.
Being known as a Spanish grape, the 2017 Cave Dog Albariño was a unique pick having been produced in Napa Valley, California creating a fresh and linear fruitiness with a great salinity.
All reds were from California showcasing two of the grapes that they do best: Pinot Noir and Zinfandel. The 2016 Au Bon Climat, Pinot Noir, Santa Barbara bursts of strawberry and blackberry flavors that immediately left an impression of versatility in terms of food pairings. One of former President Barack Obama’s favorite wines, the 2016 DuMOL, Highland Divide, Pinot Noir was highly coveted not just because of its reputation, but due to its complex elements and lingering finish. Ranking 12th in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines for 2017, the 2015 Bedrock Wine Co. Old Vine Zinfandel delighted the palate with its licorice dark-fruit flavors that gives it an Amarone-like character.
